Bakery Manager

Position Summary:

  • Work with other associates to assure that all objectives and goals of the department and store, as communicated by the Store Director are met or exceeded. Provides excellent customer service while serving and selling the highest quality foods. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Give every customer immediate and undivided attention; provide excellent customer service
  • Follow through on all customer questions and requests
  • Keep department supplies filled and maintained
  • Ordering product from vendors when appropriate
  • Ensure that food quality, quantity; freshness and presentation meet all company standards
  • Keep all cases, floors and shelves clean
  • Understand why our products are different than conventional stores, and are able to communicate the differences to customers
  • Maintain accurate retail pricing and signage
  • Sample department products to customers
  • Be aware of new products and their placement
  • Maintain safe, clean and well-organized working and shopping environment
  • Document product transfers, waste and spoilage using appropriate forms
  • Properly package and wrap products for retail sale
  • Help cross-merchandise product with other departments
  • Accept and process product from receiver
  • Schedule writing to ensure department is properly staffed to provide stellar customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Leadership and motivational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers and other associates
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Must have valid Oregon Food Handler card
  • Successful experience working in a retail environment
  • Able to meet physical requirements of the job
  • Must have a passion for food and people
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with a sense of urgency
  • Basic knowledge of ingredient information and nutrient facts for bakery and coffee products
  • Must be outgoing, and have excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented
  • Is available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department
  • Strong demonstrated merchandising skills
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals

Physical Demands:

  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Proper use of a box cutter, knives, and other department devices
  • Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Bending, stooping, and climbing

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions
  • May walk and work on uneven surfaces
  • Requires reaching above and below shoulder height
  • Some exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and chemicals
  • May need to use a ladder or stool to reach product or supplies
  • Exposure to continuous background and occasional noise
  • Walking surfaces are sometimes slick
  • Repetitive stretching and lifting required
  • Any item over 40 pounds requires a team lift
