About

Zupan’s Markets is a local and family-owned specialty market focusing on the best fresh, quality ingredients. Step into our stores and be inspired for your next great meal. Our stores cater to tastemakers. From farm fresh produce and high-quality meat to aged cheese and wine, our departments are filled with the best-curated selection in Portland.

We truly are a neighborhood store, invested in getting to know our customers and serving the community around us. We have three locations throughout Portland and Lake Oswego.

The Zupan family has been part of the Portland community for the past 65 years. At the age of 16, John Zupan began work as a courtesy clerk at Sheridan Fruit. His passion for the grocery industry was ignited, and he spent subsequent years working and specializing in produce, spending 11 years at Fred Meyer as the Produce Manager and later working his way up to Produce District Manager. In 1975, John decided to venture out on his own, and so the Zupan’s story began.

Zupan’s stores have come in many shapes and sizes since 1975, with past store locations in West Linn, Salmon Creek, Battleground, McMinnville, Sherwood, Vancouver, Roseburg, Tigard and Raleigh Hills. The store format and style have also shifted from traditional grocery stores to big box warehouses, and now to the smaller store format focused on fresh perishables and high-quality specialty food items.

Zupan’s continues to be one of a small number of local, family-owned grocery stores in Portland. John’s son, Mike, took the reins in early 2000 and works every day to ensure Zupan’s always finds the best-tasting, highest quality items. John continued until his death in 2011 to take an active role in supporting his original dream and desire to offer the freshest, very best food to Portland area food-lovers.

In addition to providing the best products and services, Zupan’s Markets also believes in giving back to the community by partnering with charitable organizations such as the Sunshine Division, the Bloom Project, and Urban Gleaners. Additionally, each store partners with local organizations in the neighborhood to provide support where needed.
