Located just 30 minutes south in Aurora, family-owned Oregon Flowers grows 46 different tulip varieties.
In 1985, Martin and Helene Meskers came to Oregon from the Netherlands for an internship with Oregon Bulb Farm, the top lily breeding company at the time. After starting their internship and seeing the immense potential the Willamette Valley soil had for flowers, the couple decided to settle in Aurora to begin their dream of creating a cut flower greenhouse in the U.S.
35 years later, Oregon Flowers is still a family-run business, producing cut flowers for both the U.S. and Canada and employing 30 people year-round – the majority who have been with the company for more than 15 years. Featuring tulips, lilies, calla lilies, and other seasonal cut flowers, Oregon Flowers state–of–the–art facilities and top-quality bulbs allow for continuous flower production. Each bulb is carefully inspected and used only once to produce strong, beautiful flowers.
Their facility features equipment imported from the Netherlands, state-of-the-art forcing and rooting rooms, and two climate-controlled greenhouses. When flowers are ready, it is the job of four people to walk through the greenhouses to clip each flower by hand. Featuring 46 tulip varieties, during tulip season their all-star floral team processes 7,000 tulip stems and up to 2,500 tulip bunches each day!
Martin and Helene are both still heavily involved in the business, and you will often find Martin wandering around the greenhouse. Martin and Helene’s son and daughter are also involved, with their son Tyler living right next door to the greenhouses.
Given the proximity of Zupan’s Markets to Oregon Flowers, we are proud to be able to provide the freshest, local tulips available.
