This two-ingredient Strawberry Sauce is so quick and easy to make but it will make all your strawberry desserts taste more strawberrylicious. It can be made with fresh or frozen berries and is a great way to utilize bruised or slightly overripe strawberries. Serve this simple sauce over ice cream, blend it into milkshakes or smoothies, spoon it over yogurt, waffles, and more. My favorite way to enjoy this sauce is with slices of sponge cake with fresh whipped cream and sweetened berries.
Ingredients
- 4 cups of strawberries, fresh or thawed from frozen
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
Preparation
In a saucepan, place washed and cut strawberries, add 1/4 cup sugar and cook over medium heat, mashing strawberries with a potato masher or back of fork. As strawberries warm up, they will release their juices. Bring mixture to a boil, then remove from heat. If the sauce needs to be sweeter, add remaining sugar and stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Cool and store in an air-tight container until needed.
