Grilled Colossal Shrimp with Garlic Aioli

Featuring the classic Old Bay Seasoning, this recipe makes a perfect appetizer or main course meal.
This recipe featuring our Colossal wild-caught shrimp features on our favorite shrimp seasonings – Old Bay.

Ingredients

Garlic Aioli ingredients
1 egg yolk*
2 cloves garlic, finely grated
1 tsp Lemon zest
¼ t salt
½ C Zupan’s Markets Organic Olive Oil

*Raw egg is not recommended for infants, the elderly, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems…or people who don’t like raw eggs. But they won’t have to forgo this aioli altogether. Just use pasteurized egg yolk instead. Can substitute mayonaise also.

Shrimp seasoning
1 lb. colossal shrimp (shells on)*
½ t salt
1 clove garlic, finely grated
1 ½ t Old Bay®

*If you’d prefer to skip the mess of shells, prepare recipe as described above with peeled shrimp or peel before plating with aioli.

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, add the egg yolk, garlic, lemon zest, and salt. Slowly whisk in olive oil and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add shrimp, salt, garlic, and Old Bay®. Stir to coat shrimp.
  • Heat grill pan over medium-high heat. Cut one lemon in half.  Place cut sides of lemons on grill until they are caramelized, 1-2 minutes.  Add 1 tsp. olive oil and cook shrimp approximately 2 minutes on each side.
  • Spread aioli over the bottom of a platter or large serving dish. Arrange cooked shrimp on top of aioli. Squeeze over lemon and sprinkle with additional salt and seasoning to taste, (optional: sprinkle on some chives).
